Hello, my name is Marla Murasko.
Hi and thank you for stopping by. I’m Marla, a native New Jerseyan living in the Boston area, and so happy to be back on the East coast! I am a mother to my amazingly determined 11 year old son Jacob, diagnosed with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect, stepmother to my incredibly independent 22 year old stepdaughter Amanda, and wife to my best friend Paul. I am a multi-business owner, author, speaker and health advocate.
I am an extremely passionate Down Syndrome Parent Influencer spreading awareness and inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome on my blog, in my community and in the classroom. I am also a Lifestyle Blogger, where I share posts about everyday life as a mother, while “Creating A Happy Home With A Little Something Special”. On our blog we love to talk about things we know and love, like fashion & beauty, health & wellness, family, education, advocacy, parenting, family travel and Down syndrome. Time To Meet The Family
Becoming a Mompreneur!
Prior to getting married and becoming a Mom, I worked in the administrative field for several years. I loved what I did. But the day my son was born, I realized very quickly that my priority was now HIM! My son was born with a congenital heart defect and Down syndrome. Recognizing that with his special needs came different responsibilities or should I say “INCREASED” responsibilities then what I originally planned when I decided to take on the role of Mom. I soon became a therapist, teacher, nurse and advocate, in addition to becoming CEO of my household, limo driver, cook and event planner. As time went on I realized I still loved working, planning, creating and helping others. But it was unrealistic for me to go back to work during this critical time, so becoming a “stay at home” mom entrepreneur was the answer for me! It allowed me the flexibility to care for my son and the ability to continue utilizing my skills and talents as an Administrative Professional, and in 2003 ExecuEssential Administrative Services was opened to “Provide Creative Solutions For Other Professionals Business Needs!”
Special Needs Blogging
However, after years of helping others run their businesses, I realized I still wasn’t satisfied. After taking time off from my business I realized my focus changed. I was more interested in sharing our story, so I created my blog, while helping other special needs moms “achieve business and personal success.” With my focus primarily on my son’s special needs and other mom entrepreneurs, I realized that my attention was targeting a “niche” market of Moms ~ Special Needs Moms! I enjoyed empowering, supporting and becoming a mentor to other mothers searching for a way to care for their child with special needs while supporting their families. So I started a blog called SpecialMoms | A Special Needs Parenting Club with the slogan of “Helping You Be Successful On Your Own Terms Both Personally and Professionally!” As a result of creating this network and sharing our story, I connected with so many wonderful special needs moms. As I shared stories of our journey with them, I was immediately drawn to the idea of advocating and blogging about my son that I created a blog chronicling his journey entitled Special & Determined.
