Creating healthy snacks that you can take on the go can sometimes be hard to come by. Prepackaged items are often times no good, filled with sugars, dyes and preservatives that are un-needed in the body. Making your own snacks and choosing things that are on the healthier side is easy with a little bit of time and decision making. Here are a few examples of things that can be taken on the go, especially in summer time, that will fill you up and are healthy for you.
There are tons of recipes online for protein balls, some with peanut butter, chocolate chips or your favorite oatmeal, etc. This snack is a small ball of oats, grains, peanuts and other filling items that are all stuck together with the mix of your choice, such as mentioned above; peanut butter, or coconut oil, as well as other ingredients. They are packed with protein and will fill you up by just eating one, or two depending on the size.
Similar to protein balls, homemade granola bars, which are made with many of the same ingredients, are another alternative to prepackaged store bought snacks. Many people choose to use things such as agave for a sweetener and add in small things like chocolate chips, or favorite dried fruits to add some alternative flavors. Keeping you full and healthy is the idea of homemade granola bars, and they are even easy to make! Just mix, bake, and cut!
This one is great when you have picky eaters on your hands. You can make small batches for each person and it won’t go to waste. Add in your favorite peanuts, dried fruits and other things like crackers and pretzels to create your own healthy little snack. You can also make this a fun family activity by setting up a trail mix bar and letting each family member fill their own container.
Fruits and Veggies
Fruits and vegetables are always the best healthy option, there is no better way to eat healthy than to eat raw foods. Pick up some easy snack items such as grapes, berries, carrots and other root veggies like radishes to make easy snacks no matter where you are going. Simply cut them all and put them in reusable baggies right when you get home and you’ll have healthy on the go snacks that everyone will enjoy.
